MLA Dr. Bharati Lavekar is a dedicated Indian politician, social worker, and two-term MLA representing Versova Constituency in Maharashtra. A member of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), she is well-regarded for her focus on pragmatic solutions and community development in her diverse constituency, which includes both urban areas and traditional fishing villages. Born on June 7, Dr. Bharati Lavekar pursued an impressive academic career, earning degrees in Journalism and Political Science, and a Ph.D. in the Uniform Civil Code, providing her with a solid foundation for her political and social endeavors.
Her legislative achievements are wide-ranging, including the promotion of sustainable energy through the Energy Garden, the development of sports infrastructure, and coastal beautification initiatives like beachfront development. She has also spearheaded the modernization of local jetties to improve the livelihoods of fishing communities and implemented various infrastructure projects to ease congestion and improve living conditions. Additionally, her “Green Versova Project” focuses on beautification and environmental restoration.
Through her NGO, Tee Foundation, Dr. Lavekar has made significant contributions to gender equality and women’s health, notably through her innovative Sanitary Pad Bank, which addresses menstrual hygiene issues. She also led the Beti Bachao Abhiyan to promote gender equality and raise awareness about the importance of girl children.
Her international exposure includes being selected by the American Government in 2006 to study U.S. legislative elections. A strong advocate for environmental preservation, she has led the "Save Mangroves Movement" to protect coastal ecosystems.
